Hot Tips
Include your fonts
Missing fonts are the most common source of PostScript errors. If your
fonts did not come in the original Windows program or are not one of the basic
Adobe 13 - include them. See the "Help" section on this web site
for instructions on how to include your fonts.
Include Links
PageMaker users should use the "save for printer" option and Quark
users should "collect for output". Publisher users
should use the "Pack-and-go" option. Other programs require that you
manually collect and save all the linked files. Select "Help" for
specific information!
Ungroup
You should ungroup everything before saving your files.
Photos
Scanned Photos look great when printed electronically. Scan at a maximum of
300 dpi and set you program for a 106 line screen for best results. If
printing in black ink, use a
grayscale photo in most any common format (tiff, EPS, bmp, pcx, etc).
Re-Sizing
Crop and resize photos in your graphics program using the "resize"
tool. Save them with a new name
and then place them in your page layout program. Do not drop in a
large photo and then pull the corner down to a new size. Your files will be
much smaller and your printing will be more reliable.
Disk Space
When you print a PostScript file, it can require more hard drive space than
you have available. Make sure you have several times the hard drive
space than your final PostScript file will occupy. Please remember it
will include thee graphics and fonts as well as the words and PostScript code.
How to save files
Use "save as" when working on complex documents. Don't use
quick saves or auto save. Using the "save as" command will
save your file in one large block on your hard drive rather than a fragmented
bunch of files created with the normal "save" command. This
tip will often allow you to print otherwise unprintable large Word files
Adobe Type Manager
Consider purchasing Adobe Type Manager and installing the genuine Adobe
PostScript fonts that come with it. This $50.00 utility will greatly
enhance your success rate when printing PostScript files or to
Imagesetters.
Adobe Acrobat
If you buy it and use it your life will be much easier. Make sure to
change the preferences from "screen" to " press" before sending
us files to print. This will change the file resolution from 72 to 2400
dpi and include the fonts.
