Basic Principals of Electronic Printing

The procedure is:
Create a document in your favorite program
Select the print menu
Select a supported print driver
Print your document to a file
Use the “print-to-file” option on your print menu and print the file to your hard drive.  Send us a copy of the file over the Internet or give us a disk.
Adobe Acrobat:  The universal print driver
We strongly suggest that you send us Adobe Acrobat (pdf) files.  It is much more reliable and you can look at the pdf file yourself to see a proof prior to sending us the file.  Please use the "Press" setting in the Acrobat options.

Application Files Vs Printer Files

Application Files - The files you create and save on your computer are application files. For example, Word Perfect, PageMaker, and Excel are all applications. There is a danger in printing from application files from a computer other than your own. Since no two computers are set up exactly the same it is nearly impossible for your document to look or print the same when opened on another computer.  While we support most current applications, we strongly suggest careful proofing before we print your document.  PageMaker, Quark, and Publisher have special save options to reduce these problems.

Printer Files - When you check the “print-to-file” option in the print menu (not the save menu) the information that would typically be sent to your printer will be printed to a file instead. The key to electronic printing is creating printer files that are compatible with the DocuTech Digital Publishing System (or the Xerox iGen3 full color printer). Drivers for most computers are available on your system install disks or on this web site by selecting Print Drivers and downloading the appropriate driver for your computer system.
