General Print To Disk on Macintosh

 

This procedure will support most Macintosh programs.
Step 1: Create document in your application.
Step 2: Print a sample of your document on your printer. Your printer will need the printed sample as a reference.
Step 3: Open Chooser under the Apple in the upper left hand corner.
Step 4: Select the Laserwriter icon. If icon is named Laserwriter 8, please go to Step 5. If the Laserwriter icon has no number, go to Step 14.

Step 5: Select the Print command under File.
Step 6: In the Print dialogue box, there is an area entitled Destination. Choose File. The Print button becomes a Save button.
Step 7: Click the Save button and a new Window will appear.
Step 8: Select the Folder where the file will be saved.
Step 9: Give the file a name. Be sure to give the file the extension .PS.
Step 10: Select Postscript Job in Format box.
Step 11: Select Level 1 Compatibility.
Step 12: Select All in Font Inclusion.
Step 13: Click the Save button. This will place the file in the Folder or on the disk selected by the user.
Laserwriter (Version 7.x)
Step 14: Select the Print command under File.
Step 15: In the Print dialogue box, find Destination. Click on Postscript File. The Print button becomes a Save button.
Step 16: Click the Save button and a new Window will appear.
Step 17: Name the Postscript file and be sure to include the extension .PS.
Step 18: Select the Folder where the file will be saved.
Step 19: Click the Save button. This will place the file in the Folder selected by the user.

Step 1: Create document in your Pagemaker application.
Step 2: Print a sample of your document on your printer. Your printer will need the printed sample as a reference.
Step 3: Open Chooser under the Apple in the upper left hand corner.
Step 4: Select the Laserwriter icon.
Step 5: Select the Print command under File.
Step 6: Select Options.
Step 7: In the Options window, select Write Postscript to file. The Print button becomes a Save button.
Step 8: Name the file, select the Folder or disk where the file is to be placed and include the .PS extension.
Step 9: Select Normal and Include downloadable fonts.
Step 10: Click on the Print button. The file will save to the directory or file selected.

Part 1
Step 1: Create document in QuarkXpress.
Step 2: Print a sample of your document on your printer. Your printer will need the printed sample as a reference.
Step 3: If using Laserwriter 8.4, please go to Step 5. If the Laserwriter is version 7.X-8.3, go to Step 14.
Generating a Print to File (Postscript) file using Laserwriter 8.4 or later.
Step 4: Select a Postscript Printer Driver.
Step 5: Choose the Chooser from the Apple menu.
Step 6: Click the LaserWriter 8.4 or later driver, then close the Chooser.
Step 7:  Choose File > Page Setup, then select the correct PPD from the Printer Descriptions pop-up menu.
Step 8: Select the appropriate page setup options.
Step 9: Click the Printer button, then select File from the Destination pop-up menu.
Step 10:  Select Save as File from the pop-up menu, then select Postscript Job from the Format pop-up menu.
Step 11: Check Level 1 Compatible.
Step 12: Choose All from the Font Inclusion pop-up menu to include all the font information in the Postscript file.
Step 13: Click Save. Enter a name for the Postscript file in the Create file field and select a location to save the file; then click Save. In QuarkXPress 4.0, specify other print settings as desired, then click Print in the Print dialog box to generate the Postscript file.
 
Generating a Print To File (Postscript) file using a Laserwriter 7.x – 8.3.
Step 14: Select the correct Postscript Printer Driver.
Step 15: Choose the Chooser from the Apple menu.
Step 16: Select LaserWriter 7.x or later (7.x - 8.3) driver, then close the Chooser.
Step 17: Choose File > Page Setup, then select the correct Postscript Printer Driver from the Printer Descriptions pop-up menu.
Step 18:  Select the appropriate page setup options.
Step 19: Click the Printer button, then check File (or Postscript File) in the Destination area.
Step 20:  Click Save. Enter a name for the Postscript file in the Create file field and select a location to save the file. Select Postscript Job from the Format pop-up menu.
Step 21: Check Level 1 Compatible.
Step 22: Choose All from the Font Inclusion pop-up menu to include all the font information in the Postscript file.
Step 23: Click Save. In QuarkXPress 4.0, specify other print settings as desired, then click Print in the Print dialog box to generate the Postscript file.
